In this article:

The potential for grapevines to move foodstuff readily to differant parts of the vine were investigated through the defoliated of a shoot while a second shoot is retained as a control.

The results suggest that the foodstuffs in the vine form a ‘pool’ from which all bunches and shoots can draw, and the any operation which decreased the capacity of the vine for producing food stuffs would decrease the amount in the pool
