Observations on the sex of about 15,000 seedlings raised were consistent with the determination of sex in Vitis by a single set of three alleles.

Deviation from simple Mendelian ratios were found only when observations were made on incomplete populations.

From crosses involving one homozygous hermaphrodite parent it appeared that with the techniques and conditions of the programme about 1-2 per 100 of the seeds may arise from pollination with extraneous pollen.
