In this article:
ABA causes stomatal closure when applied to turgid leaves, while stomatal reactions to moisture stress also appear related to the upsurge in endogenous ABA at low leaf water potential.
Intact leaves of Vitis vinifera (L) were exposed individually to a CO2 enriched gas stream under laboratory conditions.
Stomatal closure was decisive (though reversible in CO2 free air) but the CO2 treatment had no discernible effect on endogenous levels of abscisic acid (ABA).
Closure therefore is not likely to be mediated via ABA metabolism.
