In this article:

The responses of grapevine to increasing concentrations of sodium chloride were examined in an in vitro experimental situation where small changes in growth could be related to internal chloride levels.

Varietal differences were apparent in culture in addition to the effect of salt.

The potential of this system to provide a relative assessment of salt tolerance is demonstrated.

Such information together with whole plant studies could assist in assessment of rootstock for areas of high salinity.
