Experiments were conducted to see if movement of sugar between bark and wood occurs in fully grown vine shoots to ascertain whether sucrose and hexoses are interconverted and also to determine the sugar concentration of extracted sap.
Ring-barking experiments with 14C were carried out to see if longitudinal movement in the xylem occurs in intact shoots.
