In this article:

Two aircraft and three ground machines applied fungicide to the almost fully developed foliage canopy of irrigated Sultana vines on an early summer day under atmospheric conditions of light, variable winds and high wet bulb depression.

To estimate spray distribution the amount of deposit on glass slides, suspended in the canopy, was measured.

The aircraft were inferior to the ground machines in amount of deposit, penetration of the canopy and coverage of the lower surfaces of leaves.

It is concluded that aircraft should be discouraged from spraying in similar conditions unless it can be shown that the low levels of deposit measured within the canopy are biologically acceptable.
