Many industry organisations have identified the low uptake of trellis drying technology as a major impediment to the sustainability of DVF production.
A survey conducted by Drying for Profit and Agriculture Victoria showed that only 7.5% of fruit was trellis dried in 1997.
The labour required to produce DVF by traditional means is becoming more expensive and scarce.
Therefore to ensure maximum returns, growers need to mechanise. To mechanise to the maximum extent, dried fruit growers must adopt trellis drying and a cordon based trellis system.
This project was designed to document the economic advantage of trellis drying as a way of demonstrating to growers why they should adopt Trellis Drying.
