In this article:

Relative humidity of the air and availability of water could be related to temperature and light conditions in a particular season and may also influence fruitfulness. Plants of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Cabernet Sauvignon were grown under water stress.

Fruitfulness was progressively depressed with increases in water stress. Number and weight of leaf primordia in buds were unaffected.

The results indicate that fruitfulness of grapevine buds can be depressed by water stress. Irrigation during the period of bud formation could be important in influencing potential crop in areas with a dry sunny climate.
