Grape producers are increasingly using pressurized water delivery systems to deliver soluble nutrient salts to vine roots. Couple with tight water management, such systems allow control over the amount supplied and the timing of that supply, and hence greater control over shoot growth, leaf function and grape yield and composition.

There are many permutations and combinations of timing of supply and amounts delivered, which, when combined with different environments, soil types, varieties and rootstocks used and grape end uses, makes the notion of a single universal program untenable.

The next advance in the use of fertigation as a management tool in grape production may need to incorporate a decision support framework thats incorporates  perenniality and encapsulate vine growth and development functions, yield potential determination and intra-vine nutrient dynamics.
