Many rootstocks with only moderate resistance to rootknot nematodes give vigorous vines in infested soils, with no evidence of decline over a period of 10-15 years.
The number of nematodes breaking the resistance may be expected to increase with time, however the increased vigour and salt tolerance of the rootstock justifies their introduction.
CSIRO field trials have shown Salt Creek (Ramsey) is most satisfactory rootstock for Sultana on light textured soils, however it is unsatisfactory for Gordo due to incompatibility problems. Salt Creek appears satisfactory as a stock for Currant and several wine varieties.
1613 and Harmony cannot be recommended as nematode resistant rootstocks in Sunraysia.
