In this article:

Omitting to twist sultana canes around the trellis wire during pruning did not reduce bud burst, the percentage of fruitful shoots, yield, or the number of canes available for next season’s pruning.

It is concluded that a less time-consuming method of attaching canes could be used without affecting yield.
